New Blood (1999)

During the final year of the millennium, movie goers had a hardy helping of high profile thrillers to see from Martin Scorsese’s Bringing Out the Dead (1999) and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut (1999) to Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) and Clint Eastwood’s True Crime (1999). The screen also flickered with David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ (1999), Sidney Lumet’s Gloria (1999), Michael Mann’s The Insider (1999), Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey (1999), David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr. (1999), Roman Polanski’s The Ninth Gate (1999), M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense (1999) and Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam (1999). Needless to say, that’s one hell of a lineup! So, it makes sense that a lesser thriller could get lost in the shuffle. Enter New Blood (1999). Not to be confused with Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood (2021), Michael Hurst’s direct-to-video pic uses a neo-noir style to mix drama with action comedy. The Canadian-British production follows a wounded criminal named Danny (Nick Moran) who visits his estranged father (John Hurt) to make him an offer he can’t refuse. What we can’t refuse are views of Carrie-Anne Moss. Too bad the sexy brunette doesn’t doff her duds. Luckily, Danny’s girlfriend (Roberta Angelica) obliges our eyes. Just ten minutes into the flick, the topless hottie gets the covers pulled off of her while someone is pounding on the door. In other words, we get a brief but great look at her nude boobs as well as her be-thonged booty. Obviously, Ms. Angelica is the real thriller in this movie!
