Nena (2014)

Nena (2014) is a German and Dutch made romantic drama that will really change the way you see German-Dutch romantic dramas. The film is a love story between the titular Nena (Abbey Hoes) and her newfound love Carlo (Gijs Blom). The two are dealing with somewhat similar angst, Nena’s disabled father has attempted suicide, while Carlo’s father recently came out of the closet. The two bond over the shared stress of their family lives crumbling. The film takes place in 1989, and Abbey Hoes' body is nineteen eighty-fine. From Carlo’s influence, Nena becomes more of a punker, and when you see her in her leather jacket, you’ll want to let her jack it. Away from the stresses of home, the two young people regain a lust for life, and find a lust for each other. Abbey Hoes is no ho, but still, Hoes shows her yabbos when her and Carlo get close. The film is a coming-of-age story about discovery – the discovery of pain and hardship, as well as love and sex. There are definitely parts of Nena that will get the attention of your wena.
