A young woman with an itinerant past wonders whether she’s found the right reasons for settling down in the German drama Madrid (2003). Kathrin Angerer stars as Isabel, the heroine of Daphne Charizani’s feature film debut. Born in Greece, the young woman has lived in Spain, Germany, and elsewhere in Europe but wonders if it isn’t time to finally think about putting down roots. When her German boyfriend leaves her, Isabel shacks up with an impetuous Spanish trucker whose vision of their mutual future involves a new home and kids. Charizani’s film is light in tone, but she does know how to switch gears for some hot-and-heavy action when Angerer starts making bedroom eyes at her lucky new hubby.
