Lip Service (2001)

Lip Service (2001), which was developed by writer/director Shawn Schepps at the Sundance Festival writer's lab, walks a fine line between drama and black comedy, sexy and creepy, kooky and smart, and does so successfully. The movie stars Jami Gertz as a bohemian artist and Sybil Temchen as the girl who can't get enough of her, and while both have boyfriends, the sexual tension is so thick that you can cut it with a knife. Instead of a knife the girls just cut to the chase and get into bed. That makes for a fine resolution to the growing stress so expertly played by the actors and director. This is satisfying filmmaking of the highest order. And since it has some skin, how can you lose?
