Le torrent (2012)

A repressed Quebecois teen finds an outlet in Le torrent (2012). Francois (Victor Andrés Trelles) was raised in the Canadian wilderness by his strict and overbearing mother (Dominique Quesnel), who taught him to fear God through a series of beatings and fire-and-brimstone sermons. After attending high school at a religious academy, Francois returns home to tell his mother that he does not want to become a priest after all, news that so enrages her that she beats him until he loses his hearing permanently. Further isolated by his disability, Francois retreats from the world...until he meets beautiful, free-spirited native girl Amica (Laurence Leboeuf).
