Set under the hot, relentless sun of the Belgian Congo, the television production Le Blanc à lunettes (1995) chronicles a French colonialist’s unexpected obsession with an English adventuress. Based on a novel by Georges Simenon, the film stars Laurent Grévill as the Frenchman whose feelings for the elegant Lady Makinson (Lynsey Baxter) are complicated by his emotional ties to a nubile translator (Susana Arenas). Nevertheless the colonialist soon has his way with the British charmer. Baxter gives a convincing performance as the subject of male obsession, shedding her threads for a series of electrifying encounters.
