Born in the Netherlands, Karina Smulders has been working her tail off—and sometimes her clothes—since she made her acting debut at the age of 16 as Lotje Konings in the popular daytime soap opera Onderweg naar morgen, or On the way to tomorrow. She played the part for 96 episodes, from 1996-1997, then left to get properly trained at the Academy of Performing Arts in Amsterdam.
