A paramedic races from one grisly accident scene to the next in the artful indie drama Kammerflimmern (2004). The feature--the first for director Hendrik Hölzemann--stars Matthias Schweighöfer as Crash, a harried medic who pilots an ambulance through Berlin’s busy streets. Dealing with accident victims is only one of many worries, as Crash is also plagued by his parents’ recent deaths and his uncertain relationship with the beautiful Jessica Schwarz. When Schwarz can get her man to settle down and enjoy life’s simple pleasures (including a roll in the hay, with multiple position changes) Hölzemann’s film really hits its stride. There are also some top-notch supporting players, including a female doctor (Bibiana Beglau) who mistakes Crash’s ambulance for a bachelor pad.
