The sister of actress Natasha Richardson and the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson, Joely Richardson got a later start than her big sis. But Joely is no less off-beat than her sib, often winding up in freaky arthouse fare such as Peter Greenaway's Drowning By Numbers (1988). In the twisted tale Joely played one of three murderesses, all named Cissy Colpitts. Joely proved she was no sissy, tackling the notorious Hollywood musical I'll Do Anything (1993). Though she's no dog--as is evidenced by her pouty lips and steely eyes--Joely came on board for the successful remake of 101 Dalmatians (1996). One of her greatest roles, without a doubt, happened in Sister My Sister (1994), which cast Joely as a maid having an taboo lesbian love affair with her sister. This maid leaves more than mints on the pillow! In Hollow Reed (1996) Joely played the divorced mother of a young boy who was abused by her live-in boyfriend. Joely's highest profile role to date may have been in the Mel Gibson Revolutionary War flick The Patriot (2000), in which she played the sister of Mel's dead wife. Joely puts enough hustle in that bustle to make anyone a minuteman!
