Born in Joliet, Illinois, Dutch-Indian eyeful Janina Gavankar is a living embodiment (and oh, what a body it is) of the diversity that makes America great. As a theater major at the University of Illinois at Chicago, she was already working on the stage and filming commercials and independent films. She made her feature film debut in Barbershop (2002), where she was typecast most appealingly as a “Fine Woman.” She drew skinspiration from her own life for her role as a Chicago college student in Dark (2003), and returned to the pole (the barbershop pole, that is) with a small role in Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004). Janina has also appeared in the skindependent features Shattered! (2008), Men, Interrupted (2010), and The Custom Mary (2010). Diverse diva Janina was also a part of the pop group Endera, signed to a subsidiary of Universal Records. Endera scored some hits on the Indian pop charts, like her collaboration “Tell Me What” with Pratichee Mohapatra of Viva. A move to Los Angeles landed her on the boob tube in shows like Girlfriends, The Gates, The League, The Cleaner and Strong Medicine, but it’s her role as Papi on the Showtime hit The L Word that’ll really put the pepper in your pot- she offers some brief nip with Leisha Hailey in “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” If that whets your appetite, then you’ll want to take a long slug from Cup of My Blood (2005), a horror flick where Janina shows of her T&A and joins in on a threesome with Daniela Heidner-Krueger, which is definitely Mr. Skin’s cup of tease. In 2011, Janina returned to the world of fantasy with her role as sexy shapeshifter Luna on HBO’s hit series True Blood. Funny, we have a few fantasies starring the lovely Ms. Gavankar too!
