Biography

British babe Gail Grainger replaced Valerie Leon in her usual spot in the sexily comedic Carry On flicks. Gail picked up the role of Moira Plunkett in Carry On Abroad (1972), and while she was sexy as sin in various lingerie, showing off curvy hips, a tiny waist, and a decent rack, she did not follow in her predecessor’s footsteps and offer up nudity, which is what the Carry On films were kind of famous for. Which could possibly explain why this was the only one Gail actually got cast in. The auburn-haired beauty didn’t do another movie until Jaguar Lives! (1979), an action movie with Christopher Lee and Joe Lewis. The rest of the starlet’s career was all done on the little screen, with pop-up roles as Clare in Casanova ’73 in 1973, Heather Gardiner in Warship in 1974, Priscilla White and Helena in Late Call in 1975, Jill in The Sweeney in 1976, an appearance on The Dick Emery Show in 1977, Catharine in Butterflies in 1979, and Maureen in Rings on Their Fingers in 1980. Despite not giving up the goods in Carry On Abroad, Gail was still part of the franchise, and can be seen in archival footage in multiple episodes of the TV series Carry on Laughing in 1981, a round-up of “bawdy” British humor. Popular British comedic actor Leslie Phillips (he was the voice of the sorting hat in the Harry Potter movies) wrote about her in his autobiography, mentioning her co-starring roles in several theater productions, including a stage version of The Avengers in the early ‘70s. And that’s all anyone seems to know about Gail.
