Call her the Thrilla from Manila, because this Philippines-born babe has been blowing people away with her award-winning performance in the 2022 film Triangle of Sadness. But Dolly de Leon’s been doing her thing for decades, ever since her stint on the television series Sa dulo ng walang hanggan fro 2002-2003. Some of this classically-trained actress’s most notable roles include Sally in The Arrival (2009), Elsa in Verdict (2019), and Dahlia in Historya ni Ha (2021). But it’s Triangle that’s earned her the most acclaim, becoming the first Filipino actress to be nominated at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes, for her portrayal of Abigail, a toilet manager on a cruise ship who turns the tables on some of the wealthy guests after they wind up stuck on an island. As the only one of the group who can catch fish and build a fire, she flips the power dynamic and takes control, using her newfound influence to initiate an affair with a hot young castaway (Harris Dickinson), showing off her bra-clad coconuts in the process. Hopefully this newfound success means we’ll see even more of this doll’s delightful parts on screen!
