Alliteration may be considered a cheap literary trick, but as tricks go it works wonders when used in Cherie Chung’s name. Why, Cherie’s name just rolls off the tongue, and wouldn't it be nice to put some of her other body parts on that wet appendage! Sweet Cherie first made tongues roll via 1979's Miss Hong Kong pageant, where she finished third runner-up. She later attracted the admiration of director Johnnie To, who put her in the film The Enigmatic Case (1980). From that point on, Cherie became one of Hong Kong's best-known actresses. While she made her name in such classy productions as Ann Hui’s The Story of Woo Viet (1981), Clifford Choi’s Hong Kong Hong Kong (1983), Tsui Hark’s Peking Opera Blues (1983), Mabel Cheung’s An Autumn’s Tale (1987), John Woo’s Once a Thief (1991), and Ann Hui's Ji dao zhui zong (1991), her last screen credit, it’s her work in the comedy Cherie (1984) that catches the carnal attention of the hairy palms at Skin Central. She plays a physically fit trainer with a lithe body on display when she strips to her panties. She also shows just the teeniest amount of nip that qualifies as her first--and only--on screen nudity. After marrying advertising businessman Mike Chu in 1991, Cherie quit entertainment at the top of her game. And oh to be at the top of her game! Today Ms. Chung is an environmental activist, ensuring that the world's cherries don't spoil. Sixty years old and still ripe for the picking, this Cherie seems spoil-proof.
