Bliss (1997)

People find bliss by going to the movies — especially when they’re seeing Salma Hayek in the rom-com Bliss (2021); saucy Aussie Helen Jones in Bliss (1985); or the thriller Bliss (2019); the romantic short Bliss (2014); the German flick Bliss (2012); and the British dramedy Bliss (1995). Of course, we’d be remiss not to include the erotic drama Bliss (1997) on this list. The R-rated film follows newlyweds Maria (Sheryl Lee) and Joseph (Craig Sheffer). When the couple goes to a marriage counsellor (Spalding Gray), Maria says she’s never had an orgasm with her husband. This confirms Mr. Skin’s suspicions that she should have held out to become Mrs. Skin instead! To add insult to injury, poor Joseph finds out that his wife is getting some screwing schooling from an elder sexpert named Baltazar (Terence Stamp). As the teachings of tantric sex unfold, the plot and the flexible leading lady offer plenty of twists and turns. This is bad news for Joe, but great news for us because we get to view Ms. Lee in the nude throughout the movie! Check out her rack and snatch as she does her spouse in the sack. Alas, it’s a dimly-lit scene due to the bedroom location. But once she moves to the restroom, we can ogle her bare boobs under the lights. Thank you, Thomas Edison! Speaking of, Leigh Taylor-Young illuminates the screen when she flashes her flesh on camera. Unbelievably, Bliss was a box office miss despite generating sparks in spank banks!
