Suicide, it was sung, is painless. Maybe for the suicide, but not for the rest of us who have to live with the absence of blonde French tickler Betty Mars, who took her life on February 20, 1989, while only in her mid-forties. The torch singer left us an eternal flame to warm the cockles of our mounds with Bons baiser… à lundi (1974), a comedy where her locks were dyed black but her T&A was untouched . . . by clothes. As auspicious a debut as that may have been, it pales in comparison to Emilienne (1975), a lesbian drama where Betty gets it on with Nathalie Guérin--yes, Betty Mars is (or was) out of this world!
