A wealthy socialite grows irresistibly obsessed with a dangerous drifter in the lurid modern noir Baton Rouge (1988). Spanish screen siren Carmen Maura stars as Isabel Harris, a married woman desperately searching for sexual excitement in her staid life. A chance encounter with a gigolo (Antonio Banderas) at a service station causes Harris to tote the hunk back to her posh apartment and use him to satisfy her urges. Their relationship sours, however, when Harris begins suffering nightmares while her new boy toy plans her murder with her shrink. Director Rafael Moleón has a knack for infusing his noir with smoldering sexual excitement, and it’s hard not to think that the real-life husband of Melanie Griffith isn’t the luckiest dude in the world as he gets to have his way with the scintillating Victoria Abril and Carmen Maura on screen.
