Bad Monkey (2024-)

Another Apple TV+ series from Ted Lasso and Shrinking’s Bill Lawrence, this one beginning with a boat ride and narration from Tom Nowicki, who watches an out-of-town honeymooner accidentally catch a gross severed arm that’s giving the finger while sport-fishing. Then we meet Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), a former detective living in the Florida Keys. He was suspended for roughing up the older husband of his lover Bonnie (Michelle Monaghan) but his old partner Ro (John Ortiz) tells him the local sheriff (Todd Allen Durkin) might decide to give him his badge back if he makes the arm disappear because no one else can be bothered - but it really needs to go away lest it hurt tourism. Andrew brings the arm to Miami to see if it matches any other recovered body parts but it doesn’t, and despite all the flirting that happens between him and the forensic pathologist Rosa (Natalie Martinez), he can’t hoist it in her. He tries to dispose of it but he can’t shake the sinking feeling of foul play so he keeps it in his freezer. Then Bonnie comes over for some food, wine, and fornicating in the shower but she runs off when she accidentally finds it. It’s good that he kept it though because it seems to be the arm of Eve Stripling (Meredith Hagner)’s husband and she wants it back. But her story is suspicious too, dangit! The ill-behaved primate in the title belongs to Neville Stafford (Ronald Peet), an unambitious Bahamanian who lives in a shack on the land Eve’s husband was planning to turn into a beachfront resort, but it’s the teases of sun-soaked skin that’ll have you monkeying around with yourself. Michelle lays out in her bra, Natalie taunts us in the tub, and Meredith shows off her bikini bod before slinking into a jacuzzi. Now who’s monkey needs a spanking?
