Army of the Dead (2021)

Following his time making movies in the DC Universe, director Zack Snyder decided to get back to his roots with Army of the Dead (2021). Snyder's feature filmmaking career began in earnest with his 2004 remake of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, so this zombie flick represents something of a homecoming for the director. Where that film took the same basic premise of a zombie outbreak where the survivors hole up in a mall, this film similarly borrows from two other non-zombie related films: Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven (2001) and James Cameron's Aliens (1986). Wrestler turned actor Dave Batista stars as the leader and founder of a mercenary group known as Las Vengeance, based in Las Vegas where a recent government experiment gone awry has led to the government evacuating and quarantining the entire city. With the city set to be leveled by a nuclear strike, the mercenary team is called into action to empty out the $200 million still in a casino vault and get it safely out of the city limits before Vegas is destroyed. Of course, once they're on the ground in a Sin City overrun by fast, virulent zombies, the entire mission is going to be in jeopardy from the very start, particularly once these mercs discover the new zombie hierarchy! While the film is mostly interested in a shit-kicking action and dropping f-bombs, there is a smattering of nudity to be found, most of it courtesy of topless zombie strippers played by Sabine Varnes, Mónica López, and Kelly Phelan! Too bad we don't get to see their zombeavs too!
