A self-described “nice Jewish girl,” Ellen F. Steinberg was born into a household of academics in Pennsylvania and had a shy life while growing up in Los Angeles. But when she began working as a cashier at an adult film theater, she decided to spread her wings (among other things) and enter the burgeoning porn industry of the 1970s. Under the name of Annie Sprinkle, the nude ingénue appeared under (and on top of) lovers in skin flicks, including Blow Some My Way (1975), My Erotic Fantasies (1976), and The Devil Inside Her (1977). As a global skinsation, Annie put the boobs into the boob tube when she revealed her rack on German TV (Schmidt Mitternachtsshow, Boulevard Bio). Although she became a feminist in the early ’80s, it didn’t curb her enthusiasm for exhibitionism. Indeed, Ms. Sprinkle doffed her duds in Wimps (1986) and The Naked Feminist (2004). With Beth Stephens, she directed the documentary Goodbye Gauley Mountain: An Ecosexual Love Story (2013) which showcases the dyke-namic duo’s three Bs and lesbian tendencies!
