Abandoned Houses, Empty Homes (2000) follows the impact of war on a small Finnish community. 1944, the Soviet army has launched a massive offensive that prompts the province of Karelia to evacuate its woman and children. Martta (Jonna Järnefelt) had just married solider Aarne (Mats Långbacka) before her retreat, and must hold it together to survive along with her other female relatives.
