A Black Lady Sketch Show (2019-2021)

Insecure creator Issa Rae used her influence with HBO to get the hilarious series A Black Lady Sketch Show on the air in 2019. The first season of the show brought together funny ladies Robin Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Quinta Brunson for six acclaimed episodes that brought audiences a sketch comedy show unlike anything they'd seen before, and certainly unlike anything since In Living Color went off the air in the 90s. Like everything else in the world, the show's second season got put on hold when COVID struck, but the long-awaited debut came in April of 2021! While the show lost the talents of Quinta Brunson in season two, they added the funny and sexy Laci Mosley and Skye Townsend to the ensemble! Despite being an HBO series, which are famous for their extreme content in the realms of sex and violence, the show is a relatively tame affair in both of those regards. There's plenty of cursing and the show earns its place on HBO for sure, but they clearly aren't looking to bring us particularly titillating content. There have been exceptions to that rule, of course, and we're always on the lookout for exceptions like this one! In the season two premiere, the gorgeous Robin Thede gives great cleavage in a sexy low cut dress, but these ladies are more interested in bringing the funny than popping out their breasts. We wouldn't mind if they altered the focus of the show, but the show is absolutely hilarious enough to keep us tuning in... even without the promise of skin!
