The Real Blonde (1998)

Everyone knows there are many twists and turns on the road to superstardom. The highway to Access Hollywood is paved with day jobs as a tuxedo-wearing waiter and soul-sapping gigs applying makeup at photo shoots to sell cheesy disco jeans. Not to mention the crushing rejection of failed auditions that comes with the humiliation of being one among a hundred naked mimbos in the background of a pop diva’s music video. And then there are the lifelong friends who land a spot on a crap soap opera and no longer return your open-mouthed stares of entreaty. Such is the stuff at the center of Tom DiCillo’s romantic dramedy The Real Blonde (1998). This R rated film follows the struggles of performers Joe (Matthew Modine) and Mary (Catherine Keene). She supports her man in business and pleasure. For example, check out Ms. Keener’s nip slip in the sack and bare back by the window. When she’s not flashing her flesh, Mary encourages Joe to appear in a Madonna music video. How else will he obtain fame? As they follow their quest for success, the two encounter Madonna’s scantily-clad double (Elizabeth Berkley); a talent agent (Kathleen Turner); Joe’s boss (Christopher Lloyd); Mary’s boss (Marlo Thomas); and Mary’s self-defense instructor (Denis Leary). The movie also includes Dave Chappelle, Maxwell Caulfield, Steve Buscemi, Beatrice Winde, and Daryl Hannah’s pokies! If that’s not titillating enough, Ms. Hannah reveals her belly button. Not to be outdone, Bridgette Wilson bares her beautiful breast. As Sahara, this blonde is hot!
