Following the smash success of the Paramount Network Original Series Yellowstone, a prequel series titled 1883 was ordered by the streaming service Paramount Plus in 2021. Set in the titular year, the series follows the forebears of the Dutton family as seen on Yellowstone, with real life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill playing James and Margaret Dutton. The couple, along with their children Elsa (Isabel May) and John Dutton Sr. (Audie Rick), flee their home and poverty stricken life in Texas to travel across the Great Plains in search of their family fortune. They hire grizzled veteran cowboy Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott) to help them make the journey and along the way, the family comes into conflict with Shea and his men, questioning their motives, and hoping that they'll be able to make it safely to Montana where they can start a new life and garner new opportunities. Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Wind River), one of the co-creators of Yellowstone, is at the helm of this adventure and it's guaranteed to be a tale of the inherent dangers in following the so-called Manifest Destiny which had gripped the country in the middle part of the 19th Century. Of course, that's all well and good, but we're digging the women of 1883! As mother and daughter, Faith Hill and Isabel May add some much needed sex appeal to this otherwise rugged series, including a scene where they bathe together in a lake in episode five, though we sadly only see them from the shoulders up! When watching 1883, you'll be asking yourself if that's a ten gallon hat in your lap or are you just enjoying the show?
