Zelary (2003)

Though a brutal spawning ground for grotesque hostilities, war also makes for tender and idealistic bedfellows. Seldom are a hero and heroine so selflessly courageous as the surgeon and nurse who are patching up resistance fighters in the Nazi-plagued Czechoslovakia of Zelary (2003). But even the most exalted bravery has its limits. When the pair’s clandestine operations are brought to light, the surgeon flees to preserve his skin, and the nurse is left behind to save her own hide. A patient whose life was saved by the nurse’s skill and kindness many years past takes fond pity and risks existence by allowing the fugitive to pose as his wife. Cast together in the cauldron of violence and oppression, how long can the pair endure before the pose becomes reality?
