Unorthodox (2020)

Unorthodox is just that, an unorthodox look at the orthodox!  The story follows Esther Shapiro (Shira Haas), a Hasidic young Jewish girl fleeing from her strict religious upbringing and a potentially doomed arraigned marriage on the horizon.  As "Esty" flees her boxed in and futureless world in Brooklyn, she soon finds herself held up in Berlin with a bunch of diverse musicians at a conservatory who help her come out of her shell of child-like innocence and discover her individuality away from the Jewish community that was all she knew. Esty is played by the adorable and incredibly talented Shira Haas who plays the role with the honesty of a babe in the woods, so to speak, because she has realistically never been outside of her community until now.  As she sports the fragility of a shaved head for the first time, she splits her moods between happy that new people in her life think she's edgy with her hairdo to sad and scared knowing her old life might end up catching up to her and taking away her new found independence again.  Shira Haas not only blows you away with her performance but also is the lone actress to get nude in this one.  We do get some slight skin from costars Safinaz Sattar, Tamar Amit-Joseph, and Irina Potapenko.
