The King of Marvin Gardens (1972) is a lost classic of ’70s cinema, as Jack Nicholson reunites with Five Easy Pieces (1970) director Bob Rafelson in this tale of a smalltime gangster in Atlantic City. Bruce Dern is the local loser, and Nicholson is the loving brother who gets lured into a particularly ridiculous scheme. There’s also a great performance by young Ellen Burstyn, who still seems young and sexy even as she’s playing an aging beauty.
