The tumultuous story behind today's Throwback Thursday is sad and sometimes overshadows the contributions she made toward skinema. At Mr. Skin, those contributions will never be forgotten, so that's why we are throwing it back today to Dorothy Stratten. #TBT to the absolutely striking blonde beauty and playmate Dorothy Stratten.
Dorothy Stratten was born Dorothy Hoogstraten in Vancouver. Always a gorgeous blonde babe, Dorothy became a model and actress when she was a teenager. Her debut role was in the movie Americathon when she played a Playboy Bunny. In 1980 she became Playboy's Playmate of the Year and in that same year, she played Galaxina in Galaxina, a science fiction parody akin to Barbarella.
Dorothy clearly had a promising career ahead of her with several Hollywood honchos taking notice of the petite beauty. She was nude in the low-budget Canadian film Autumn Born which showed off her impressively large knockers when she takes a nude bath.
Sadly, she died at only 20 years old in a gruesome murder at the hands of her own spouse Paul Snider in 1980. Reportedly, Hugh Hefner himself encouraged Dorothy to leave Snider and other friends warned her that her hubby was acting dangerously and was jealous of her rising career. She separated from Snider andbegan an affair with director Peter Bogdanovich who hadcast her in what would be her first major studio film They All Laughed. Snider wouldn't let herleave him so easily, however. Dorothy became convinced that she could remain friends with her estranged husband by handling the divorce proceedings with him personally rather than meet with their lawyers. Sadly, this would lead to her murder. She came over to his apartment, where she used to live with him, and she was never seen alive again.Snider tragically shot Dorothy and then himself with a gun he bought that day to 'take up hunting'.
The murder-suicideended her life and brilliant career way too young. It is probably that Dorothy would have picked up where beauties like Marilyn and Jayne Mansfield left off. The world was robbed of her talent and skintasticscenes, but we'll always remember her. #TBT to Dorothy's brief and beautiful time in skinema!
