There're many ways to become famous, but one of the least attractive is by committing suicide. Not that the disturbed student in Stay (2005) necessarily wants fame and fortune. His promise to kill himself on his twenty-first birthday is a tribute to his idol, a famous painter who did the same. But the suicidal student has a professor who wants to save him from himself, and that's the conflict beating at the heart of this absorbing drama. What helps to make audiences stay, though, is a brief scene in an arty strip joint where Caroline Leppanen and Mam Smith play Dancer #1 and Dancer #2, kind of like Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat, but for grownups. They don't show off much skin, but you'll be tripping the light fantastic in your pants.
