Staff Picks: Ozploitation

Our weekly column Staff Picks takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version of Staff Picks has a decidedly skintillating angle, as we suss out the films from a particular subgenre are the best to find great nudity. This week, we look at the wild and rowdy films of the 1970s Australian exploitation movement known as Ozploitation!

Yes, even the Australians had an exploitation film movement in the late 60s that spanned into the early 80s. The country itself loosened some of its laws regarding censorship in entertainment, which brought this wave of fascinating films that were filled with nudity. They were low budget and low on clothes! The Australian outback is wild and the women are wilder. Take a look at some of these famous Ozploitation films with nudity.

Walkabout

Cinematographer turned director Nicolas Roeg is responsible for incredibly famous nude scenes in The Man Who Fell to Earth and Don't Look Now. He started it all with his sophomore film: Walkabout. To be fair, this film was produced by the Brits which doesn't make it 100% Ozploitation, but it is typically considered one of the early Ozploitation films so I wanted to include it.

Set in the Aussie outback, an English rose hangs out in the Australian outback. Jenny Agutter sheds her clothes in a moment meant to symbolize her quest for freedom. She winds up being full frontal as she washes her body in a waterfall. I'd pause and watch that if I were passing by on a Walkabout.

Alvin Purple

1973's Alvin Purple gave us sex, sex, and more sex. In this cheeky sex romp, Graeme Blundell plays Alvin who appears to be irresistible to Australian women. He is SO sexy to women that they throw themselves at him and they even show him their Down Under. He's like an Australian Alfie.

Kris McQuade, Lynette Curran, Jacki Weaver, Elke Neidhart, Shara Berriman, and Anne Pendlebury all show their true colors: skin. There was a sequel to the film, but it doesn't have as much great nudity as the first. Graeme Blundell's best adventures are in the original film!

Patrick

Richard Franklin directed this 1978 film that feels like a classic exploitation thriller. A serial killer is in a coma in a hospital where he is still able to use his psychic powers to disturb his victims. Does he use his powers to undress ladies? No, they do that all on their own!

Helen Hemingway delights us with her breasts in several scenes. She shows her nipples through a see-thru dress, she shows her tan lines in the bathtub, and she swims naked to let us check out her flotation device.

Long Weekend

Colin Eggleston directed this wild and underrated Ozploitation film that puts a coupling in the unforgiving Australian outback to go on a camping trip. They try to iron out their problems while taking in some RR in nature, but they can't stop arguing. The only thing that stops them from sniping at one another is the killer creatures in the outback that decide to fight back against the couple ruining the peaceful terrain.

Briony Behets is the blonde babe in the movie who plays one-half of the couple. I love checking out her hills and valleys.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

The original Mad Max is by far one of the most famous films from this subgenre. In this post-apocalyptic world, everything is scarce - especially clothes.

The sequel is the one with the nudity! Anne Jones and Kathleen McKay both took off their tops in the desert. Kathleen has her clothes stripped off which leaves her topless as she lays in the sand. Anne presses her mams up against a man while she is completely nude. We can see all three B's on that beauty!
