Playdurizm (2020)

The title of the film Playdurizm (2020) has to be said aloud phonetically to be understood. Got it? Good. The latest film in the man wakes up in an alternate reality subgenre, hence the clever title that acknowledges this film isn't the first to travel down these roads. Gem Deger, who also co-wrote and directed the film, stars as Demir, an ordinary teenager with a vivid imagination and a love of a Dante's Cove-esque erotic melodrama, in particular its leading man Andrew (Austin Chunn), a perfect almost cartoonish specimen of man with suspenders and no shirt. Demir's current love life with Drew (Issy Stewart) has also grown stale as her meddling brother Jeremy (Christopher Hugh James Adamson) has become a daily fixture in his life. Demir wakes up one morning to discover that Andrew is now his roommate, schlepping his way through life as a dancer in a gay nightclub, who encourages all of Demir's worst tendencies, particularly by masquerading as a gay man while really being straight and in a secret relationship with Drew, which accounts for why she's been so distant lately. As fantasy and reality collide in this one of a kind flick that has big aspirations it can't quite fully realize. Thankfully the filmmakers realized that a spoonful of skin helps the medicine go down! Issy Stewart makes her nude debut, going topless three times, including during a pair of standing sex scenes with Austin Chunn!
