PEN15 (2019-2021)

One of the weirder comedy concepts of the last decade, PEN15 is a Hulu cringe humor show about two middle schoolers dealing with how awful and awkward being in 7th grade is. But while there are child stars on this show, both Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle were in their thirties in real life when they pretended to be teens on the show. But unlike in lots of movies who pull the adult as teen switcheroo, on PEN15, it's very obvious, and that's a big part of the show's humor. Based on their actual middle school lives, the show takes place in the year 2000, and leans heavily on millennial nostalgia about the early 2000's. Maya's dad is touring the country with his cover band, and her and her mom don't get along very well. Meanwhile, Anna's parents are headed for a divorce. The two school losers find each other, bond very quickly, and soon enough the show is mixing heartfelt friendship moments and heart stoppingly cringy scenarios. Some of the most painful stuff includes the two spending time in horny AOL chatrooms, the always terrible decision to give yourself a haircut, and developing a very early 2000's combined name for you and your bestie ala Bennifer. But since it's very clear these ladies aren't actually in middle school, you can sit back and enjoy some of the sexual stuff they get involved in. At one point, Maya's body double masturbates we get a closeup of her crotch in underwear. Then we see her do it a bunch more times, including by humping her pillow, and humping her hand on the floor, which lets us see her buns as she thrusts. This girl can't stop, and neither can we after watching her!. Anna, on the other hand, tries on some sexy underwear and even lets us see her in a bra! Talk about turning us back into horny teenagers.
