Set in 1908 on a Turkish Greek island, Pascali's Island (1988) follows Pascali (Ben Kingsley), an insignificant bureaucrat who spies for the Sultan in Istanbul. When Anthony Bowles (Charles Dance), a dashing adventurer posing as an archaeologist, comes to the island, Pascali learns that he is secretly planning to loot the island’s ancient treasures and is not-so-secretly looting the treasures of the spy’s love interest, Austrian painter Lydia (Helen Mirren).
