The gorgeous and occasionally skin-ful Nandita Das hails from India, and thus, the better part of her acting career has taken place there. Sadly, this means that she is a virtual unknown here in America, in spite of her unparalleled beauty and more than adequate acting talents. Nevertheless, movies with titles like Janmadinam, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, and Pitaah don’t exactly fly of the shelves of your local American video store. If you can find her debut effort, 1996’s Fire, make sure and pick it up. Nandita made one Hell of an opening effort in it with her role as a woman in an empty marriage who eventually falls for her equally depressed sister-in-law. All lesbian jokes aside, it provides an interesting look into a culture that is pretty foreign to Americans, and does a great job with some pretty sensitive subject matter. It doesn’t hurt, either, that Nandita bares her breasts for a “love” scene with her sister-in-law… Lesbianic Indians. Now you just don’t see that every day. It's a sex scene that could've shown more, but also shows enough to get your juices flowing and rocks off. What more can a self respecting flesh fiend ask for?
