Lovers of the Arctic Circle (1998)

Spanish art film Lovers of the Arctic Circle (1998) follows the intersecting paths of Otto (Fele Martínez) and Ana (Najwa Nimri), who meet once by chance as children in Spain and then again as adults in Lapland, where they fall in love, only to be separated again when Ana dies suddenly. The circular patterns of fate and chance are repeated in the film’s title, in the palindromic names of the characters, the idea of reincarnation, and in a brief flash of Najwa’s right teat as she climbs out of the covers while her boyfriend hides behind the bed. Is the arctic chill to blame for that stiffening, or is it something else?
