Biography

Lani O'Grady is best remembered as Mary Bradford, daughter number one and child number two, the super-smart med student on the classic '70s dramedy series Eight Is Enough with Dick Van Patten. She played the role from 1977-1981, and replayed it the TV movies Eight Is Enough: A Family Reunion (1987) and An Eight Is Enough Wedding (1989). In real life, the Walnut Creek, CA, native hailed from a famous family herself, being the younger sister of Don O'Grady of My Three Sons fame. She began her own climb to fame at the age of 15, as Penny Fox in an episode of the TV series The High Chaparral in 1969, then hit up the shows Headmaster in 1970, The Delphie Bureau in 1973, and Harry O in 1975. She was Noreen in the TV movie Cage Without a Key (1975) with Susan Dey, and just a regular girl in the feature film Baby Blue Marine (1976) with Jan-Michael Vincent. To prove she was all grown up at the age of 22, she took the part of Jane in the horror flick Massacre at Central High (1976), and stripped down to her panties and perky little bare breasts for a three-way tent romp with Robert Carradine and a fellow gal pal. The following year she became one of the Eight for 112 episodes, pausing only to do a couple of episodes of The Love Boat. Post Mary Bradford, she popped up in an episode of Quincy M.E. in 1982, and was Julie McNulty in the TV movie The Kid with the Broken Halo (1982) with Gary “What you talking about, Willis?” Coleman. Lani traded her on-screen career for one behind the camera, working as a talent agent like her mother before her, and only returning to acting to do her two Eight TV movies. Sadly, Lani passed away in September 2001 at the age of 46, a week shy of her 47th birthday.
