L.A. Confidential (1997)

Saucy Aussies Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce broke out as international actors while playing American detectives busting a prostitution ring staffed by movie star lookalikes in L.A. Confidential (1997). A lot of guys also broke their zippers when they saw Kim Basinger in her role as a Veronica Lake clone. Thanks to her body-clinging silk gowns, low-cut dresses and bare back shots, the blonde babe nabbed an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress! Yes, she adds thrills to this 1953-set thriller which killed at the box office and spank bank while simultaneously winning over critics. Based on James Ellroy’s 1990 novel of the same name, the neo-noir flick picked up a second Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay (by Brian Helgeland and the film’s director/producer Curtis Hanson). Bondage, romance, blackmail, tabloid gossip, and murder abound as double dealings and double Ds populate the pulpy plot. As such, we encounter Lana Turner (Brenda Bakke), Detective Sergeant Jack “Hollywood Jack” Vincennes (Kevin Spacey), Captain Dudley Smith (James Cromwell), Sid Hudgens (Danny DeVito), Pierce Morehouse Patchett (David Strathairn), and the bare boobs on Inez Soto (Marisol Padilla Sanchez). Alas, the lass is a damsel in distress — tied to a bed at the 57-minute mark. But at least she’s not flashing her mams while on a slab like the dead-sexy Susan Lefferts (Amber Smith) is 35 minutes into the movie. Breast of all, Tammy Jordan (Shawnee Free Jones) reveals her rack during a Paparazzi set-up after just 12 minutes of action. Nothing too confidential about that!
