Fishbowl Wives (2022)

Great Nudity!

Review

The title of the Japanese miniseries Fishbowl Wives—which premiered on Netflix on Valentine's Day 2022—conjures up any number of images in our minds, namely that opening sketch in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, but it's not quite as literal as it may sound. The series follows a sexy sextet of housewives living in the same luxury high rise building in Tokyo. Sakura Hiraga (Ryôko Shinohara) lives in the penthouse with her hairdresser husband who, unbeknownst to even their closest friends, is an abusive dickhead behind closed doors. After meeting several other women in the building going through similarly trying marriages that keep them cooped up in their apartments like—you guessed it—fish in a fish bowl, they decide to start having affairs with any eligible men in the building. What starts out as a seemingly great way to get back at their husbands soon turns into an elaborate web of deception they must all maintain in order to keep their secret lives hidden... and to paraphrase an old bit of wisdom, six people can keep a secret if five of them are dead! The show is chock full of sex, but not quite as full of nudity as we were hoping. However, being a Japanese show, this isn't wholly unexpected. Juri Kawasaki goes topless for several sex scenes, Kyoko Hasegawa shows off her bare ass during a sex scene in the shower, and series star Ryôko Shinohara finally bares her buns during a sex scene in the eighth episode! These Fishbowl Wives are sure to drop a flopping flounder in your pants!
