The title actually has two meanings: it not only refers to the act of shuffling off this mortal coil, which is what elderly couple Lissy (Corinna Harfouch) and Gerd (Hans-Uwe Bauer) are approaching as they battle physical and mental deterioration, respectively; but it’s also the name of a musical piece that their conductor son Tom (Lars Eidinger) is rehearsing with an orchestra and choir. Tom’s got a lot on his plate - his friend Bernard (Robert Gwisdek), the composer of the piece, is constantly tinkering with it and being a general butthead to both Tom and the musicians in the process, plus Tom is still in love with his pregnant ex Liv (Anna Bederke) and she takes advantage of that by leaning on him whenever she’s left in the lurch by her current partner. Tom’s sister Ellen (Lilith Stangenberg)’s situation seems to be even worse - she’s a dental hygienist who spends her nights blackout drunk and her days hungover all while having an affair with her married dentist boss (Ronald Zehrfeld). For those dying to see Lilith fully nude again, this is your chance! She’s seen in the buff twice during trysts with her lover, even showing all three Bs when she wakes up after a night of belly-bumping with some kind of allergic reaction. Her face won’t be the only thing that’s swollen!
