Alternately titled Bargensac, the French comedy production Drôle de père (1997) is a made-for-television inquiry into the life of its protagonist, Hugo Bargensac (Gèrard Klein). Director Charlotte Brandstrom is an old pro at delivering saucy and sophisticated French comedy via the medium of television, having made more than a dozen such films since her late-1980s debut. Of course she’s not always fortunate enough to work with a cast as fantastic as the one that pops up in Drôle de père––supporting actress Sarah Bertrand is particularly brilliant in her turn as the headstrong Sophie. The Bonjour Tristesse veteran will have Francophiles’ mouths watering as she flashes her orbs after stepping from the shower.
