Born Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon in Tampa, Florida, this rapper and singer dabbled in acting, dance, cheerleading, and gymnastics growing up, but then turned her focus to spoken word and hip-hop in high school. Under her new moniker, Doechii released her debut song “Girls” on Soundcloud in 2016 and then followed that up with her self-funded debut EP Oh the Places You’ll Go in 2020. Using the social media video platform TikTok, Doechii started gaining momentum when her 2021 song “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” went viral. She signed with Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records and was soon appearing at the MTV Video Music Awards and Coachella. The self-professed bisexual joined Katy Perry onstage for some crotch shots, simulated scissoring, and booty jiggling during a performance of “I’m His, He’s Mine” on MTV’s big night in 2024, and frankly, now we’re craving a lot MOchi from Doechii!
