Try for just a half-minute to fathom the horror of Jackie Mason and Lynn Redgrave as lovers and you’ll have no difficulty understanding why Chicken Soup lasted only 11 episodes back in 1989. Laden with goofball characters (one of which is a lovable bigot), strained ‘social class’ humor and lots of easy Borscht Belt schtick courtesy of Mason…come to think of it, I’m stunned this one lasted even 11 episodes!
