If you ever wondered where the idea for the Fran Drescher TV show The Nanny was swiped from, look no further than this 1979 comedy about an Italian American girl (Saturday Night Fever’s Donna Pescow) who falls for and marries a rich whitebread w.a.s.p type (Airplane’s Robert Hays). Sure, The Nanny was Jewish, this chick was Italian, but to the folks in Dublin, Ohio there’s absolutely no difference between the two. This show was really well received in its first season, earning it a second season that just kept on going, eventually almost running an entire year before the show was let go. I guess the attitude was, if you’re on a good thing, drive it into the dirt until it stops twitching. 37 episodes were shot in total but only 36 shown… which begs the question, exactly what was it that episode number 13 contained that executives found so objectionable? Was there even an episode 13 in the first place, or did superstition see that number skipped? We’ll never know… all we do know is that Donna Pescow has a great ass.
