Richard Crenna and Bernadette Peters starred in this talent-loaded sitcom set in Washington, D.C. The series followed the relationship between an aging conservative political writer, Richard Barrington (Crenna) and his girlfriend, left-thinking photographer Charley Drake (Peters). The essential premise is that they’d argue about topics that were in the news at the time, with conservative Richard and liberal Charlie bickering humorously while their friends and co-workers chuckled. Peters was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the series, as best actress in a musical or comedy, but despite critical applause, the show never found an audience that would stick around long enough to make it through the first season.
