Written by director David Wain and Michael Showalter of MTV sketch-comedy fame, Wet Hot American Summer (2001) is another one of those zany horny-teen-camp-counselors-in-lust movies. It’s a time-honored plot format that started with Meatballs (1979) and will no doubt continue. Camp director Beth (Janeane Garofalo) falls for social misfit Henry (David Hyde Pierce) while Victor (Ken Marino) tries to lose his virginity with Abby (Marisa Ryan). Set as a backdrop to these hijinks are classic summer-camp antics such as the big talent show and peeping at girls while they’re not looking. Although the language is rude and lewd and the situations depicted are sometimes explicit, the nudity is of the partially clad salacious-to-teenage-boys-who-haven’t-had-sex-yet variety.
