It’s an HBO Max crime drama from Poland that starts with the body of a young woman being found in the icy Oder River. The case is assigned to Detective Katarzyna Zawieja (Katarzyna Wajda) who’s still reeling from a death in her personal life - the suicide of her husband six months ago, though both Katarzyna and her father don’t agree with the determined cause of death. In her investigation, she discovers that the young woman is the daughter of a well-known prosecutor (Boguslaw Linda) and that she had given birth shortly before being found, but the baby seems to have disappeared. What’s more, the clues seem to lead everywhere - to the woman’s husband (Marcin Zarzeczny), her best friend (Malgorzata Gorol), and even some patients of her psychiatrist stepmother (Monika Krzywkowska). At least Detective Zawieja isn’t in it alone, she’s got her partner Trepa (Bartlomiej Kotschedoff) as well as Bogdan (Juliusz Chrzastowski), her late husband’s best friend who helps her process the idea that her husband might have actually killed himself. Be prepared to melt when you see Katarzyna in a bra and panties as she dresses to head out in the second episode. It may be called The Thaw, but your pole will be frozen stiff!
