The Doll (2026)

This ambitious adaptation og Boleslaw Prus’s classic Polish novel starts out with a bang - literally. A bomb explodes inside a Warsaw department store owned by Stanislaw Wokulski (Tomasz Schuchardt) in 1879. The story then goes back in time to introduce us to Izabela Łęcka (Sandra Drzymalska), daughter of Tomasz Łęcki (Jacek Braciak), an aristocrat whose terrible business decisions have left him deeply in debt. Their financial situation might put a cramp in Izabela’s plans to be a writer, especially after she’s told at a prospective job interview for a feminist newspaper that she needs to pop off to Paris and gain some real-world experience. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Mr. Wokulski arrives in town with a newly acquired fortune and plans to woo Izabela, not knowing she’s been rejecting proposals all over town. He soon learns that information when he pays a maidservant named Marianna to spy on Izabela and feed him useful info to win her. Izabela and Stanislaw end up connecting at a ball, and while her interest in him revolves around his wealth and how it could help her get to Paris and achieve her writing dreams, he’s equally obsessed with gaining entrance into high society. Will love ever actually enter the picture? Sex definitely does, because in one episode we get to see Sandra’s sweet cheeks as she humps away in front of a mirror. You may not get to play with this doll, but at least you can play with yourself!
