The Spy (2019)

Master of disguise Sacha Baren Cohen goes from tricking politicians and unsuspecting American citizens to playing a real-life Israeli spy in Netflx's 2019 miniseries, The Spy (2019). In a rare dramatic fiction role, Sacha plays Eli Cohen, an Egyptian born Jew who goes undercover in 1960's Syria by pretending to be a man named Kamel Amin Thaabeth. His backstory is that he's a businessman from Argentina desperate to return to his homeland, which allows Eli to become hugely successful in his spying ventures. Soon enough he's infiltrating the government and becoming good friends with some higher ups. But while his plan to plant certain trees in areas that will signal to Israelis that there are secret weapons caches in the buildings around them is a clever one, his Egyptian heritage makes him feel like Israelis don't consider him one of their own. Add to that the daily grind of living two separate lives and never getting to see his wife (Hadar Ratzon Rotem), and life's not easy for this double agent. Things don't end up well for Eli, but while he was alive his sex life was able to thrive.
