Legong: Dance of the Virgins (1935) is a historically important film for three reasons. First, it is the last film shot using the process called two-strip Technicolor. Second, it is the last silent film produced by Hollywood. And third, Legong is the only film on earth where you can see the bared boobs of Balinese babe Saplak Njoman, who is one of the film’s four actors. Paramount initially couldn’t release the film in the U.S. because of the nudity, but soon images of Saplak’s sap-rack were being projected in grindhouses in pirated copies. It has now been released on DVD with all the nudity and cockfighting scenes left in. But that’s noting next to the cockfighting you’ll be doing when you see Saplak’s sacks.
