Logan's Run

No Nudity

Review

This 1977 science fiction series was based on the classic sci-fi film of the same name that was released a year earlier. In a post-apocalyptic world, where the Earth’s inhabitants live in enclosed domed cities, everyone is provided for and every whim and desire is easily attained. However, there’s a catch--once you turn thirty you must report for “renewal” (a nice way of saying termination). While being dead by thirty doesn’t sound like such a bad trade-off for a lifetime of all the free drugs and sex you can stomach, many people become “runners.” Logan (Gregory Harrison) is a twenty-nine-year-old sandman--a member of the police force that keeps runners from getting away. However, when he learns of the corruption in the system, he decides to become a runner himself in the face of his impending renewal. With his companion Jessica (Heather Menzies), he escapes the city. However, other sandmen are hot on their trail and they must evade them out in the wilderness long enough to locate the mysterious haven known only as “Sanctuary.” Although the film, and subsequently the series, have since been laughed at for their dated costumes and visual effects, Logan’s Run was great sci-fi built around the premise of an enclosed society that needs to recycle its residents in order to keep their numbers in balance with available resources. The film is a classic that endures to this day and is even slated for a remake that should give films like Minority Report a run for their money. Needless to say, the ladies of Logan’s Run were quite alluring. Blonde Italian beauty Mariangela Melato played Valeria Bingham on the show, but more importantly she unveiled those fabulous eyetalian éclairs in Summer Night and got good and naked in the 1978 version of Swept Away. Unfortunately, we can’t say that Madonna did us the same courtesy in the recent crappy remake by hubby Guy Ritchie. Meanwhile, sandy-haired Canadian beauty Heather Menzies slithered out of her skin-coverings in SSSSSSS--a movie that was either about snakes or flat tires. In the interest of cross-referencing with other worthwhile nudity, perky Brit actress Jenny Agutter played Jessica in the feature film alongside Michael York’s Logan. She stripped down at least two or three times, revealing a very shapely body that York couldn’t help but salivate over on the commentary track of the DVD--twenty years after the fact! Now that’s a nude scene with staying power! She also showed her tits and ass as a blossoming young teenage lass in Walkabout and graced us with her pleasance yet again in Equus and An American Werewolf in London. Jenny, we’ve got your number! We want to make you ours.
