Born in Geneva, Switzerland, actress Kate Burton was raised in Manhattan—she moved there after her father, the legendary actor Richard Burton, famously left her mother, Sybil Williams, to marry Elizabeth Taylor three months after the divorce. With such a pedigree, you would think her sole goal was always to be in showbiz, but this hot smartie actually studied Russian and European History at Brown University, with the intention of becoming a diplomat. She eventually succumbed to her birthright, though, nabbed an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, and set about making an acting career. One of her first big roles was playing Vanessa Ogden in the TV mini-series Ellis Island (1984), which she starred in with her father. She went on to play Margo in Big Trouble in Little China (1986) with Kurt Russell, popped up here and there on TV, and appeared in numerous plays; in fact, the star was nominated for two Tony awards in 2002, and another one in 2006. Her first regular TV role was in the series Home Fires, playing Anne Kramer in 1992. In 1993, she was a very sexy Deborah in the R-rated TV movie Love Matters, with a hint of nipple and a very deep neckline. Big-screen roles include playing Tracy in Faithful (2002) with Richard Gere and Diane Lane, Mrs. Letham in Stay(2005) with Naomi Watts, James Franco’s mom in 127 Hours (2010), and Ellen Idelson in Where’d You Go Bernadette (2019) with Cate Blanchett. Kate has been in a slew of popular primetime series as well, but is probably most famous for her role as Dr. Ellis Grey, Meredith’s mom on Grey’s Anatomy from 2005-2021. There’s some anatomy Mr. Skin is thinking about right now…
